Fieldwork in May 2013

A mafic enclave within the Cobo granite containing a large orthoclase feldspar xenocryst which has been captured from the surrounding host rock.A layer of leucodiorite rising into darker meladiorite at Beaucette Battery. One of the felsic pipes within the diorite at Beaucette Battery. Surrounding the pipe is a halo of altered diorite.A view of the pipes at Beaucette Battery. The pipes here are viewed in cross section. The upper parts of the pipe cross sections are pegmatic and some are surrounded by a halo.An irregular contact between a felsic (right) and mafic (left) rock. Both rocks belong to the Bordeaux Diortie Complex. Flame like protrusions of the felsic rock intrude into the mafic one, and some appear to have been broken up.A contact between two different rocks within the Bordeaux Diorite Complex. Flame-like protrusions of the lower, more felsic rock rise up into the upper layer. Enclaves of the more mafic upper layer have fallen into the felsic layer.
A group of mafic enclaves within a granodiorite of the Bordeaux Diorite Complex. The enclaves show a wide variety is size and shape. Some margins are sharp, others are more diffuse.A mafic enclave within a granodiroite belonging to the Bordeaux Diorite Complex. The enclave contains plagioclase megacrysts which are possibly xenocrysts assimilated from the host rock. The Cobo Granite outcrops in the NW of the island. It intruded into the partially crystallised Bordeaux Diorite Complex and there exists a transition zone between the two rock types characterised by mixing and mingling features.Beaucette. The layered intrusion at Beaucette Battery on the North East of the island. The lower darker layer contain pipes and dikes of felsic material that is continuous with the vein system visible in the upper lighter layer.
